Common questions
How do I move to the next episode or page?
Tap Next on the entry (on the home list, on its page, or on a widget with Unlimited). Tapped by mistake? Tap Undo.
How do I set an exact place?
Open the entry and tap the big place, or the slider button next to Next. You can set season, episode, page, chapter, lesson, a timestamp or a checkpoint.
How do I add a widget?
Widgets are part of Where Was I Unlimited. Touch and hold your Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for “Where Was I”. For the Lock Screen, touch and hold it and tap Customize.
I bought Unlimited on another iPhone.
Open Settings in the app and tap Restore Purchase, signed in with the same Apple Account.
Is my list backed up?
Your list is part of your iPhone's own iCloud or computer backup. You can also export a backup file from Settings and restore it later — restoring adds what's missing and never deletes.
My reminders or new-episode alerts don't arrive.
Check Settings > Notifications > Where Was I? on your iPhone and make sure notifications are allowed. New-episode alerts need the show to be found with Find the show and Tell me when new episodes air switched on on its page; the app checks for a new date when you open it. An alert that would arrive in the night waits until 9 AM.
How do I fill in a show's seasons or a book's pages?
When you add or edit a TV show or a book, tap Find the show or Find the book and search. Seasons, episode counts and names (or author and pages) fill in. Only the text you search for is sent, to TVmaze or Open Library. You can also type everything in yourself. A show you saved earlier can be found from its page with Find the show.
How do I bring my books from Goodreads?
On the Goodreads website, open My Books → Import and export → Export Library and download the .csv file. In Where Was I?, open Settings → Import from Goodreads and choose that file. Books you're reading go to In progress, your want-to-read list to Up next, and read books to your shelf with your rating. Books already in the app are skipped.
Can I use Siri?
Yes. Say “Where was I in Where Was I” or “Next episode in Where Was I”, or add the actions in the Shortcuts app. Siri asks which entry you mean, and your iPhone needs to be unlocked.
