Summary
Countdown keeps track of dates that matter — warranties, documents, insurance renewals, vehicle service, subscriptions, trips and events. It has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising and no server of its own.
The app makes no network requests at all, with a single exception: when you buy the one-time unlock or restore a previous purchase, it talks to Apple's App Store. Nothing else you enter ever leaves your device.
Information We Do Not Collect
The developer does not collect personal information from users. Specifically, none of the following is collected:
- Name, email address, phone number, or physical address
- Contact list or address book data
- Photo library access (see Photos below — the app never requests this permission)
- Precise or approximate location data
- Financial account information or payment card information
- Advertising identifiers or device identifiers used for tracking
- Analytics, crash telemetry, or behavioural data
- Any user-created content on developer servers — there are no developer servers
Information Stored Locally on Your Device
The app stores the following on your device only:
- The items you create — titles, dates, categories, notes, colours and icons
- Purchase details you choose to add — store, price, serial number and a return-by date
- Reminder settings for each item
- Archived items you have chosen to keep
- Photos you attach to an item (see below)
- App preferences and display settings
None of this is transmitted to the developer or to any external server.
Photos
You can attach a photo of a receipt or a document to an item. This is handled by the system photo picker, which runs outside the app in a separate process supplied by Apple. Because of this, the app is never granted access to your photo library and never asks for that permission. It receives only the single image you pick.
The image you choose is copied into the app's own private storage on your device. It is marked as excluded from iCloud backup. It is deleted when you remove the photo, delete the item, use "Delete all data", or delete the app. It is never uploaded anywhere.
Camera and Receipt Reading
You can scan a receipt with the camera or pick a receipt photo so the app can suggest its date, store, price, warranty length and return window. The text is read on your iPhone by Apple's on-device Vision framework. The image and the text are never uploaded, and the developer never sees them.
Camera permission is requested only when you tap Scan a receipt, and the app works fully without it. The text that was read is not stored: only the suggestions you confirm are saved to the item. The receipt image is kept only if you choose to keep it with the item, in which case it is stored like any other attached photo (see Photos).
Notifications
Reminders — including return-window reminders — are scheduled locally by iOS on your device. There is no push notification server. The contents of a reminder — including the item's title — never leave your device. Permission is requested only when you set up your first reminder, and the app works without it.
Widgets
Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets read your items through a private shared container on your device (an Apple "App Group") that belongs to this app alone. This container is local storage; it is not a network service and nothing in it is transmitted anywhere.
Export, Backup and Claim PDF
You can export your items as a CSV file, create a backup file of all your items and attached photos, and create a claim PDF for a single item. Each file is created on your device only when you ask for it. It leaves your device only if you choose to send or save it somewhere yourself, using the standard iOS share sheet.
Restoring a backup reads only the file you pick. It adds items that are missing and never deletes or overwrites anything already in the app.
Payments and Purchases
The app offers a single one-time purchase that unlocks additional features. It is processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. The developer does not receive, process, or store your payment card information. All payment handling is managed entirely by Apple. There is no subscription.
Third-Party Services
The app integrates no third-party analytics services, advertising networks, tracking SDKs, or software libraries of any kind. The only Apple platform features it uses are local notifications, WidgetKit, StoreKit for in-app purchase, and the on-device Vision and VisionKit frameworks for reading receipts. These are device-level or App Store platform features and are not used for tracking or profiling.
Data Sharing
The developer does not sell, trade, rent, or share user data with third parties. There is no developer-side database of user-created content. Your information stays on your device.
Data Deletion
You can delete your data at any time by deleting individual items in the app, by using "Delete all data" in Settings, or by deleting the app from your device. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data associated with it, including any attached photos.
Children's Privacy
The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children, or from any users, because it does not collect personal information at all. It is designed to function without any personal data being transmitted to the developer.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
This policy may be updated if the app's features change in a way that affects how information is handled. When updated, the revised policy is posted on this page with a new date above.
