If you are reporting a problem, it helps to include your iPhone model, your iOS version, and what you were doing when it happened.
How does a check work?
Open a checklist and tap Run Check. Tap each item as you check it — the stove, the windows, the back door, your keys. When you finish, the check is saved with the time you did it and the time of every item, so later you can open the app (or look at the widget) and see exactly when you last checked.
If you are interrupted halfway, you can continue the same check where you left off.
Proof photos
Tap the camera button next to an item to take a photo of it — the stove dials, the lock. The item is ticked and the photo is saved with the check. Photos stay only inside the app on this iPhone: they are not added to your photo library, not included in backups and never uploaded. Choose how long they are kept in Settings › Proof Photos.
The free version includes three checks with proof photos so you can try it; Premium makes them unlimited. If the camera button says access is off, turn on Camera for Before You Go in the iPhone Settings app.
"Did I?" — seeing your last check
The top of the app shows your last check in large type. After a check, its time also stays on your Lock Screen for a few hours (you can turn this off in Settings › Lock Screen Receipt). You can also ask Siri: “Did I check in Before You Go?”.
Mindful Check
Turn on Settings › Mindful Check to tick items by holding them for a moment instead of tapping. It slows the automatic tap down so you look before you confirm.
Start a check automatically
In the Shortcuts app, create an automation — for example when an NFC tag by your door is scanned, when your iPhone leaves your home Wi‑Fi, or when CarPlay connects — and add the Start a Check action. On iOS 18 or later you can also add Start Check to Control Center or the Action Button. Before You Go never asks for your location.
Hotel checkout reminders
Add your checkout time to a checklist and choose when to be reminded: the evening before (24 hours), 2 hours before or 30 minutes before. Each reminder opens straight into that checklist.
If a reminder never arrives, check Settings › Notifications › Before You Go on your iPhone and make sure Allow Notifications is on. If notifications were declined once, iOS will not ask again — they have to be turned back on there.
How do I add the widget?
Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen, tap Edit › Add Widget, and search for Before You Go. The Last Check widget comes in three Lock Screen styles (free) and small and medium Home Screen sizes (Premium).
What does the free version include?
Up to three checklists, running checks and their receipts, the “Did I?” answer, Lock Screen widgets, the Lock Screen receipt (Live Activity), Siri and Shortcuts, Mindful Check, hotel checkout reminders, all 18 templates, and three checks with proof photos.
The one-time Premium unlock adds unlimited proof photos and checklists, your full check history, Home Screen widgets, daily reminders and sharing a check as a picture. It is not a subscription.
I paid but the features are locked
Open Settings inside the app and tap Restore Purchase. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account you used to buy. Premium works on every device signed in to that account.
If restoring does not work, email me with the date of purchase and I will help.
Can I reuse a list I already have?
Yes. When you create or edit a checklist, paste a list from Notes or Messages — bullets and numbering are cleaned up for you. You can also start from one of the templates and change it.
Where is my data?
On your iPhone, and nowhere else. There is no account and no server, so the developer cannot see or recover your checklists or check history. A device backup or Quick Start transfer to a new iPhone carries your checklists and history over; proof photos are deliberately left out of backups and stay on the iPhone they were taken on.
How do I delete a checklist?
Swipe it to the left in the list, or open it and choose Delete Checklist. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your device.
