Birthdays: Private Reminders

Privacy Policy

Effective Date: June 23, 2026

Introduction

Birthdays: Private Reminders (previously "Birthday Widget") is designed to help you remember the birthdays of the people you care about, with reminders and Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets. This app is designed to work without accounts, tracking, analytics, advertising, or developer-side storage of user-created content.

Information We Do Not Collect

This app does not collect personal information from users. Specifically, the developer does not collect:

  • Name, email address, phone number, or physical address
  • Your contact list or address book (the app never has access to it)
  • Your photo library (the app never has access to it — see "Photos" below)
  • Precise or approximate location data, unless explicitly required by a feature you choose to use
  • Financial account information or payment card information
  • Advertising identifiers or device identifiers used for tracking
  • Analytics or behavioral data
  • User-created content stored on developer servers

Information Stored Locally on Your Device

The app may store the following data locally on your device: birthday entries (names, dates and, if you add it, a birth year), the circle you assign each person to, an optional phone number, an optional photo of the person, notes, gift ideas and gift history, saved wish messages, which years a wish was sent from the app, your theme, app icon and celebration choices, widget preferences, reminder settings, and general app settings. This data is kept in the app's private storage on your device, which the app shares only with its own widgets and with Siri and Shortcuts on your device (see below). None of this data is transmitted to the developer or any external server.

App Permissions

Contacts. The app never requests access to your Contacts and cannot read your address book. You can enter birthdays by hand, or choose Import from Contacts. That option opens Apple's system contact picker, which runs in a separate, private process: only the people you select, with their name, birthday and, where available, a phone number and contact photo, are handed to the app and saved on your device. The rest of your address book is never visible to the app, and the app never writes to your Contacts.

Photos. The app never requests access to your photo library. When you choose Add photo for a person, Apple's system photo picker opens in a separate, private process and hands the app only the one picture you select. If you import someone from Contacts and they have a contact photo, the picker may hand over that photo as well. The app keeps only a small square copy (256 × 256 pixels) of the picture, stored locally with that person, and discards the original. You can remove a photo at any time.

Notifications. Birthday reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device; they repeat every year on their own. Permission is requested the first time you save a birthday or restore a backup, and you can change it at any time in iOS Settings.

Background refresh. The app may ask iOS to wake it briefly in the background (usually once a day) to keep reminders and widgets up to date. This happens entirely on your device and involves no network activity.

If a permission is requested for any other optional feature, it is used solely for that feature and is not used for tracking.

Backup and Export

From Settings you can create a backup file, a spreadsheet (CSV) file or a calendar (ICS) file of your birthdays. These files are created only when you ask for them, and they go only where you send them through the system share sheet (for example to the Files app, iCloud Drive, AirDrop or email). A backup file contains everything you saved for each person, including phone numbers, notes, gift records and photos, so please keep it somewhere you trust. The developer never receives these files. Restoring or importing a file adds people to your list on your device; it never sends anything anywhere.

Siri and Shortcuts

The app offers read-only actions such as "Next birthday" for Siri, Shortcuts and Spotlight. They read your saved birthdays on your device to answer the request. The app does not change or send any data through these actions.

Sending Wishes

When you choose Send wish, the app opens Apple's Messages composer (or the system share sheet) with the text you picked and, if you saved one, that person's phone number filled in. You review the message and decide whether to send it. The app never sends messages itself and never transmits any data off your device.

Payments and Purchases

Purchases, if available within this app, are processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. The developer does not receive, process, or store your payment card information. All payment handling is managed entirely by Apple.

Third-Party Services

This app does not integrate third-party analytics services, advertising networks, or tracking SDKs. If the app uses Apple platform features such as local notifications, the system contact and photo pickers, Siri and Shortcuts, background refresh or in-app purchases through StoreKit, these are device-level or App Store platform features provided by Apple and are not used for tracking or profiling users.

Data Sharing

The developer does not sell, trade, rent, or share user data with third parties. There is no developer-side database of user-created content. Your information stays on your device.

Data Deletion

You can delete your data at any time by removing individual entries inside the app where this option is available, resetting app data through app settings where available, or deleting the app from your device. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data associated with it.

Children's Privacy

This app does not knowingly collect personal information from children or from any users, as it does not collect personal information in general. The app is designed to function without any personal data being transmitted to the developer.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

This privacy policy may be updated if the app's features change in a way that affects how information is handled. When updated, the revised policy will be posted on this page with a new effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
